The activities of the brewing and alcoholic beverage industry and its contribution to the food situation in Uganda are discussed. Reliance on imported raw materials and equipment as well as lack of trained manpower to run the industries are identified as the major problems of the industry. Measures to solve these problems are proposed as:
Research in and actual production of Locally grown barley, sorghum, grapes and other crops that can be used for brewing, rehabilitation of factories that can make inputs like bottles and corks, and equipping of the brewing industries with modern and efficient machines which reduce on the costs of production.
