Read These Lips

Lips have opened
Exposing black bottomless pits
Where our sons have vanished
And lips have sealed into
Neat straight lines.

Lips have moved
Upwards

Downwards

Sideways
Between were lodged our mothers
We have watched
Our source of inspiration
Minced piecemeal
To a paste.

Lips have remained still
Pausing...
Pausing after hailstorms of speeches
Inside them our brothers
Writhing and suffocating.

Lips have opened
For yet another tirade
Our brothers tumbled out
Lifeless, dead.

Read these lips.
