The Committee on International Disaster Assistance (CIDA) of the
U.S. National Academy of Sciences will issue a report in April 1979 entitled:
"Assessing International Disaster Needs." The report, prepared by a
multidisciplinary group of international experts in disaster assessment, will
analyze the information required to assess damages and needs. In addition, this
group will review the different methods of evaluation, from field surveys to
remote sensing by satellites. The Committee on Socio-Economic Effects of
Earthquake Prediction of the Commission of Socio-Technical Systems will shortly
issue a report entitled "A program of study on the socio-economic effects of
earthquake prediction". Copies of the reports may be ordered from the Office of
