(introduction...)

Countries with fully established CDD programmes have trained health professionals, disease surveillance systems, rehydration and other treatment supplies in health facilities, and continuing health education activities. Programmes in various government ministries and departments work together to improve water supply, sanitation, and food safety practices. When a cholera outbreak occurs, these activities need to be reinforced and applied to control of the disease. If measures to control cholera and other types of diarrhoea are not yet established, efforts must be made to implement them. In addition, the activities outlined in sections 5.1 to 5.5 should be initiated.
