31. Relieving common symptoms - eye and mouth care
Conjunctivitis. If the child has a clear watery discharge
from the eye, advise the mother she need do nothing special. If the eyes are
sticky because of pus, advise regular cleaning with cotton swabs and apply
tetracycline eye ointment three times a day. The cotton swab should be boiled in
water and allowed to cool before use.
Sore mouth. Rinse the mouth with clean water (preferably
with a pinch of salt) as often as possible, but at least four times a day.
