I don't know of anything for either of these, but I'm not an expert on
GDBM or SQL. If anyone else on the list knows of something hopefully
they will get in touch with you.

An alpha version of Greenstone 3 has been available for download for a
few months from http://www.greenstone.org/greenstone3. The next release
probably won't be for a few months, and there is a lot of work to do!
(Of course, you can always get the current version out of CVS.) If you
have further questions about Greenstone 3, please ask them on the
Greenstone 3 mailing list (info at the bottom of the page referenced above).
