Subject [greenstone-users] Replace images with CSS
Hi,

Image generation in greenstone has been frustration me for a while;
Another reason is quicker downloads for the remote/slow connection users who an important user group for me.

This a go at a solution in CSS for the big collection name image seen at the top left when searching or browsing:

I am still getting some weird flickering caused by the image being reloaded on rollover - and I don't know what is causing it. I think it is my stylesheet but can't be sure.

Anyway;

In my english.dm

added

_bigcoltitle_ {
<div id="collectionTitle" style="width:225px; height:66px; z-index:1; padding-left: 4px; background-image: url(/gsdl/web/images/1.5.gif);">
<span style='font-family: "Lucida Sans Unicode", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large; font-weight: bolder; letter-spacing: -0.02em; '>Greenstone Archives collection</span></div>
}

in my base.dm I have mad the following changes:

Greenstone Archives collection {
<a href="/gsdlmod?e=d-00000-00---off-0gsarch--00-0----0-10-0---0---0direct-10---4-----dfr--0-1l--11-en-50---20-help-spdegabrielle%26%2364%3bgmail%2ecom--00-0-1-00-0--4----0-0-11-10-0utfZz-8-00&a=p&p=about"><img src="/gsdl/collect/gsarch/images/gsarch.gif" border=0 alt="Greenstone Archives collection"></a>" style="text-decoration: none; color: #000000;">_about:bigcoltitle_</a>,

Greenstone Archives collection

}

(note this works in a collection called exam for testing purposes - change tpo

# don't want link to 'about' page
Greenstone Archives collection {
<img src="/gsdl/collect/gsarch/images/gsarch.gif" border=0 alt="Greenstone Archives collection">}

Greenstone Archives collection [c=exam]{
<a href="/gsdlmod?e=d-00000-00---off-0gsarch--00-0----0-10-0---0---0direct-10---4-----dfr--0-1l--11-en-50---20-help-spdegabrielle%26%2364%3bgmail%2ecom--00-0-1-00-0--4----0-0-11-10-0utfZz-8-00&a=p&p=about" style="text-decoration: none; color: #000000;">_about:bigcoltitle_</a>}

I have attached the 1 pixel high image file (in standard greenstone green) 1.5.gif (lives in gdsl/images/ )
