Thanks for your quick and detailed response.
There isn't any problematic line in the setup.bat file but most of the
lines are terminating with cntl-M (^M) character. This was the root cause
of 'setup.bat' not being able to execute successfully on a system with
Windows 98 OS. I have edited 'setup.bat' file and got rid of all ^Ms and
it works fine now.
