if you like you can use a shell script to install greenstone without Java:

In the Unix directory you can find:

Install.sh

if you do:

./Install.sh

it will start asking question at the prompt:

Which version of Greenstone do you want installed:
[E]nglish, (F)rench, (R)ussian or (S)panish?

and so on....................

I find the script easier and quicker,
