Action towards improving national legislation is being taken in many countries. Initiatives in legislative reform include consolidating and harmonizing disparate laws concerning children, expanding coverage of the law, increasing penalties, providing compensation for child victims of violations of child labour laws and reinforcing enforcement mechanisms. Some examples of these have already been given in this chapter. This section highlights comprehensive legislative approaches to addressing the child labour problem through legislation enabling the establishment of structures to deal with the problem, and through efforts at developing model legislation.
