I would like to thank the many people who have helped and encouraged me in preparing this guide.
Alfonso Barahona, Director of the Peace Corps Honduras Agriculture Sector, who first conceived the idea of preparing this guide and was constantly involved in making suggestions and revisions. Fred Tracy was a valuable source of aid because of his personal experience in teaching soil conservation techniques and also permitted me to use some of his prepared material. Jim O'Donnell, Don Anderson, John Murphy, Mark Dripchak and Josar provided helpful suggestions after reviewing parts of the guide. Kimball Koch deserves a special thanks for this skill and patience with the illustrations. Jack Johnson also provided initial sketches and suggestions for illustrations.
Most of all I owe thanks to the many honduran farmers willing to try out the techniques described, and to former PCV Rory William Steinke, the promoter of the Santa Cruz Extension Project. m e variety of techniques employed by these persons provided me models of many soil conservation methods.
Funding for the production of this guide to date has been provided by Peace Corps Honduras.
