Culex quinquefasciatus will in most cases be considered
pest mosquitoes. In some areas, however, they are vectors of St. Louis
encephalitis and bancroftian filariasis. A number of other mosquitoes that are
also normally considered pest mosquitoes may be vectors of arboviruses. These
mosquitoes are treated superficially because of the variety of larval habitats
encountered and because of their limited medical importance. In many cases, they
will cause complaints, and some type of action against them may become
necessary.
